LAHORE: A former seminary student threw a shoe on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during an event on Sunday.
Nawaz Sharif was at Jamia Naeemia seminary in Garhi Shahu to address the people there, as he reached the rostrum on the stage, a person from the audience threw a shoe on Nawaz Sharif which hit him on his chest then the person climbed on stage and shouts a slogan while standing on the stage. The seminary administration immediately detained the attacker and handed him over to the police.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif remained unharmed later he addressed the audience and concluded his address by recalling the history of the seminary and praised its late leader, Mufti Naeem, before departing.
The attacker is identified as Talha Munawar by the police. He is a former student of Jamia Naeemia. He was beaten up by the seminary staff and event organizers, some students of the seminary also hit him due to which he had some injuries and he was taken to Services Hospital, Lahore.
After further investigations, police said they have arrested two other suspicious persons from the seminary. It was also observed that the attacker was chanting the religious slogans before throwing the shoe. According to a senior journalist Sohail Warraich who was present at the event during the incident said that the attacker was shouting the slogans of a religious party who protests against the government last year in Islamabad.
The man who threw the shoe and his accomplice is in the police custody.

The young man who threw the shoe is reported as the member of Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR).
